water for life

This ceramic art piece, representing Water For Life, was designed exclusively for the United Nations of New York in 2007 by International artist and potter, Miranda Thomas. A limited edition of 40 bowls were made, of which a number were sold at the UNA-NY 'Global Water Crisis' 2007 Gala Dinner. The proceeds from the sales were donated directly to the UNA-NY. The remaining bowls are available for purchase from the retail stores of ShackletonThomas.

The bowls were hand-thrown in porcelain, dipped in our aqua glaze, and hand painted by Miranda with cobalt fish. The fish decoration on each bowl varies, and each is numbered and signed by the artist. The bowl dimensions are 14" diameter x 4" high.

"Whilst making these bowls I kept thinking of cool, crystal clear water with plentiful fish swirling about. Most of us take water for granted and consider it our right to have an endless supply at all times. It is in fact, one of the great luxuries of our world. Clean, pure flowing water is a gift, one that is paramount to the survival of the web of life. I have made these bowls as a means to raise money for people and communities around the globe in need of life's most vital ingredient -- potable water."

- Miranda Thomas
