marty higgs, furniture team leader

Master Furniture Maker
Seven-Year Journeyman’s Bowl 2003
Four-Year Apprentice Spoon 2000

Marty is a master furniture maker and has been with ShackletonThomas for over 15 years. As Furniture Team Leader, he oversees production, planning, and all daily workshop operations. Marty decides which craftsperson is best suited to make each piece, considering whose talent and temperament can match the demands of a given design to bring out its optimal beauty. As a craftsman, Marty especially loves working on chairs, and his favorite furniture at ShackletonThomas is the Cottage collection, because of the style and feel of the handwork involved in making each piece.

Marty has a degree in English from Boston College, where he began making his own "nomadic" furniture with whatever cheap tools and lumber he could find. When not ardently making sawdust, you can find Marty beneath the shade of a sturdy sugar maple pursuing his other passions: world literature and Vermont beer.
