Each piece of our furniture is hand-made in the traditional manner, by one exceptional craftsperson from beginning to end- from the rough milling by machine to the waxing of the finished piece- using the corridination of body, mind, and tools. Machines are used only for the initial cutting. The team of furniture makers then shapes and assembles the furniture using a wide variety of chisels, planes, saws and other hand tools. Dovetails are carefully shaped and cut by hand, wooden knobs are hand-turned, and joints are fitted together using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. It is this hand-shaping that gives the furniture its wonderful vitality. The end result is a classically designed piece with a warm, smooth finish that brings out the resolution of the grain and rich, deep color of the wood.

When you sit in a Charles Shackleton chair you may find yourself following the delicate and smooth curve of its arm with your fingers. Seated at one of the many tables, you will feel the traces of the handplane and notice the inherent beauty of wood from which the table was made.
