The quest for peace is universally shared by all who live on this earth today.
In 2006, Master Potter Miranda Thomas was commissioned by the United Nations Association of New York to create a unique gift for presentation to Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, in appreciation of Annan’s work during his tenure. Today, the pottery studio of Miranda Thomas is pleased to offer you an opportunity to own a Peace Bowl, based on the design of the one given to Kofi Annan.
Each of these special bowls is hand thrown from porcelain, the purest of clays. Each dove is drawn freehand, carrying the olive branch of peace. With a very sharp small bamboo tool, the negative spaces are deeply carved out to reveal the clay’s beauty. Each piece is then fired in a reducing kiln to 2370 degrees Fahrenheit. Three days later, the bowls are drawn from the kiln incandescent and ready to make an offering.
“The dove is emblematic of all our hard work towards peace.”
