Black Carved
Miranda Thomas PotteryOur black carved stoneware is inspired by the Chinese potters of the Sung Dynasty (11th-13th centuries). No two pieces are alike. Each is dipped in an iron-rich liquid slip before the design is drawn freehand. The background of the decoration is then carved away, removing the layer of slip and exposing the clay body. The pots are bisque-fired, dipped in jun glaze, and fired for a second time to 2,360 degrees in a reducing atmosphere. Developed over decades, these iconic pieces are one of Miranda's signature designs.
