Modern Classic Rectangular Dining Table
Made By Hand in Vermont
The Modern Classic Rectangular Dining Table is a sophisticated fusion of 20th-century minimalism and soulful, Vermont-based craftsmanship. This design is an evolution of the iconic “Parsons” table—originally conceived by Jean-Michel Frank and his students at the Parsons School of Design in Paris during the 1930s.
True to the Parsons tradition, the table features a geometric silhouette where the legs are exactly the same width as the thickness of the top, creating a clean, seamless continuity of form. Charles Shackleton has adapted this historic modernist design to "reintroduce the human hand to the age of the machine" by incorporating delicate, artisanal details.
Features & Craftsmanship
-
Signature Fluting: A minimal, hand-carved fluted decoration runs along the apron, adding a subtle texture and rhythmic beauty that breaks up the stark modernist lines.
-
Modern Classic Proportions: The flush-mounted leg design provides a bold, architectural presence that fits perfectly in contemporary, urban, or transitional interiors.
-
Masterful Joinery: Hand-built in our Bridgewater workshop using traditional techniques that ensure the heavy solid-wood frame remains stable and durable for generations.
-
Premium Hardwoods: Available in rich American Black Walnut (as shown) or Cherry, with each piece selected for its continuous and expressive grain patterns.
-
Heirloom Finish: Every surface is hand-rubbed to a silky-smooth luster, protecting the wood while allowing the natural depth and warmth of the grain to take center stage.
The Modern Classic Rectangular Dining Table is more than a minimalist surface; it is a statement piece that honors design history while celebrating the enduring touch of the master furniture maker.
