Black Carved Jug
Made By Hand in Vermont
Transform the everyday into an artistic experience with the Black Carved Jugs, a signature collection of functional art from Miranda Thomas Pottery. The jugs are hand-thrown in our historic Vermont workshop in sizes measuring to carry: eight ounces, one pint, one quart, and a gallon of liquid. Each jug features intricate, freehand-carved designs—ranging from lush botanicals to spirited wildlife—revealed through a traditional sgraffito technique. The background of the decoration is carved away, removing the layer of slip and exposing the clay body. The jugs are bisque-fired, dipped in celadon glaze, and fired for a second time. These jugs are multi-purpose to carry water, juice, syrup, gravy, cream, beer, cider, or used as a beautiful vase. They are dishwasher and microwave safe.
Crafted by master potters using traditional techniques, these stoneware pieces embody the "Fine Art for Living" philosophy, ensuring that every piece is a unique, future heirloom.
