Ricardo Console Table
Made By Hand in Vermont
The Ricardo Console Table is a cornerstone of the ShackletonThomas collection, designed by Charles Shackleton as an homage to his ancestor, the influential Regency-era economist David Ricardo. This table embodies a "simple and clean" philosophy, prioritizing refined proportions and traditional joinery to create a piece that is both "economically sensible" in its design and deeply human in its execution.
Handcrafted in our Bridgewater, Vermont workshop, the table’s architectural beauty lies in its honest construction and tactile finishes:
Features & Craftsmanship
-
Traditional Pinned Joinery: The frame is built using authentic pinned mortise and tenon joinery, a structural choice that adds both visible "value and human feeling" to the piece.
-
Hand-Planed Surface: The 1 1/4" thick solid wood top features our signature hand-planed texture. This master-level technique creates a rhythmic, tactile surface that allows light to "dance across the wood grain" in a way machinery cannot replicate.
-
Tapered Legs: The table is supported by four elegantly tapered legs, providing a slender, light visual footprint while maintaining exceptional stability.
-
Continuous Grain Timber: Selected from premium American hardwoods—typically Black Cherry or Black Walnut—the wood is chosen for its warmth and enduring character.
-
Versatile Proportions: With a standard footprint of 70" x 13" x 33", its narrow profile makes it an ideal addition to a hallway, entryway, or positioned gracefully behind a sofa.
The Ricardo Console Table is more than a functional surface; it is a durable heirloom designed to bring "architectural warmth" and a sense of permanence to the most essential environments of your home.
