Wild Sycamore Trestle Table
Made By Hand in Vermont
Wild Sycamore Trestle Table
This table is about the character of the wood and the rhythm of the work. Designed by Charles Shackleton and Hugh Shackleton, it was made by hand by Hugh in our Bridgewater, Vermont workshop.
The Timber
The wood is Wild Sycamore from Pennsylvania. It is a timber we return to often for its unique, luminous figure and the way its grain seems to move under the light. We chose these specific boards for their "wild" energy—natural patterns that give the tabletop a life of its own.
The Work
Hugh Shackleton built this piece using traditional joinery and a hand-plane to finish the surface. Unlike a machine-sanded table, a hand-planed surface carries a subtle, soft texture. It is a finish that is meant to be felt; it records the physical effort of the maker and creates a connection between the tree, the craftsman, and the home.
This table isn’t just an object; it’s a functional piece of art meant to anchor a room and settle into the daily life of a family for generations.
